Reiki and Energy Healing on Retreat: What to Expect

A grounded, non-mystical look at what reiki is, what a session feels like, and how energy work fits into a week of rest.

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or hands-near) practice in which a trained practitioner helps you settle into deep relaxation. You stay fully clothed, lying comfortably, while the practitioner works slowly and quietly. There's nothing you need to do except rest.

What a session feels like

Most people feel warmth, a heaviness in the limbs, and the kind of drifting calm you get just before sleep. Some feel very little the first time and a great deal the next. There's no right way to experience it — the only job is to lie back and let the week's tension unwind.

How we hold it

On retreat, reiki isn't a bolt-on. It sits alongside sound baths, breathwork and healing circles as part of a gentle daily rhythm, so the relaxation compounds across the week rather than arriving in one isolated hour. Sessions are private and unhurried, and our facilitators check in with where you are before and after.

A grounded view

We don't make medical claims about reiki, and we'd be wary of anyone who does. What we can say honestly is that an hour of deep, undisturbed rest with skilled, kind attention is genuinely restorative — and that many guests find it one of the most peaceful parts of their stay.

Is it for me?

If you're curious, that's enough. You don't need any belief system or prior experience. Energy work is included on every retreat — see how to prepare if you'd like to arrive ready to make the most of it.
