How to Prepare for a Spiritual Wellness Retreat in Bali

What to pack, how to arrive in the right frame of mind, and the small things that help you get the most from a week away.

A little preparation makes a retreat land far more deeply. Here's how to arrive ready — practically and mentally — for a spiritual wellness retreat in Bali.

Before you travel

Check your passport has at least six months' validity and look up the current visa-on-arrival rules for Bali for your nationality. Bali is tropical and warm year-round; the dry season (roughly April to October) is the most settled. Travel insurance that covers your activities is always worth it.

What to pack

Keep it light and soft: loose, breathable clothing for warm days, one layer for cool evenings, swimwear for the pool and sound baths, and modest dress for temple visits and the Melukat ceremony (a sarong is easy to buy locally). Bring any supplements or medication you need, a refillable water bottle, and a journal — you'll want one.

Preparing your mind

The most useful thing you can do is arrive with a little space already cleared. Try to finish work properly before you leave rather than trailing it with you. Set one or two gentle intentions — not goals, just directions, like "I want to rest" or "I want to feel clear." And consider easing off caffeine and screens in the days before; you'll drop into the week faster.

While you're there

Let the rhythm carry you. You don't have to do every optional activity — sometimes the most healing choice is a nap. Drink more water than you think you need, go to bed early, and stay off your phone where you can. The week is short; presence is the whole point.
